Stumblefoot.
Kinda evokes memories of someone clumsy, doesn't it? Perhaps an acronym for the debbil?
Or a beer? A barleywine methinks.
Well, there is such a thing: Old Stumblefoot, produced by one of the finest breweries (and not well known!) in the good ol' US of A; Walking Man in little Stevenson, Washington - about 20 miles south of Hood River, Oregon.
But "our" stumblefoot, the subject of this little diatribe is the brewery so-named in San Marcos, about 20 miles north of San Diego.
Located in an industrial - type business complex (and a bit hard to find), Stumblefoot Brewery has only been open since March of this year (2012) and is trying hard to carve out a niche for themselves; not an easy thing to do with the abundance of craft breweries already in production in the greater San Diego area but the planned beer "factories" as well.
Stumblefoot owners - brewers Bill and Pat offer a good variety of beer from IPA (of course!) to Chipotle Stout (a multiple home-brew award winner) that doesn't turn the heat up so much that you need a doctor-recommended salve to soothe the burn. The dunkelweizen has a slight sweetness that goes down easy -- the Belgian Dubbel as well. The Corliss Honey Blonde was on tap the day we visited - brewed especially for friends but a cool, crisp, delightfully refreshing brew that they should consider keeping around as a "regular."
It's a small place, just big enough for a coupla dozen of your closest friends to stop by, raise 1 or 2 and wish each other a "how you?"
Stumblefoot came up with this as a description:

With a little bit of time and knowledge, they just might give the "big boys" in North San Diego Coounty (Stone, Port, Iron Fist) a run for their money.
