We recently attacked this place during our 4th Annual Pub Crawl. About 20 of us hit the bar at staggered times and we all seem to have received good service.
There are a bunch of taps, and some really interesting selections. I would put the taplist on par with many of the better beer bars in the city. Here are some of the beers on tap during this visit: Avery Maharaja, Dogfish Red & White, Goose Island Night Stalker, Boon Mariage Parfait and Founder's Red's Rye.
There is no food here, but one of the biggest draws during the summer months is likely to be the outdoor patio. We all ended up crashing out here for our one beer visit and it is a nice area that smelled strongly of Fried Chicken (there's a Popeye's next door).
I will have to revisit Long Room when we have a bit more time and a much smaller crowd to see what sitting at the bar is like. But so far, I liked what I saw!

From a suggestion by Katie T.; I walked over here from the Yelp beer garden event at Resi's Bierstube. I got there at 10:00 pm.
I was feeling ill the night I composed this review, and I can't seem to recall exactly what I had here. I know I had two beers on draft. I am fairly sure they were U.S.A. craft brews (because at the end of the beer garden at Resi's, I was slumming with the $2.00 mystery beer - it was LaCrosse Lager). [If somebody posted the list of drafts here, I would remember.]
The bar is genuinely long. I was at its northern portion. Perhaps since it wasn't that late in the evening, it was not crowded.
I will visit here again. Hopefully, I will remember what I consumed.
Note that _Diner Grill_ is across the street at Marshfield if you want to eat before or after.
Transit options: Significant EDIT here: I was mesmerized by the CTABustRacker W-WW site [http://ctabustracker.com/] one evening, and I looked at the pattern of the #80 Irving Park buses. The #80 Irving Park ceases running west from here at 12:30 am - but it only goes as far as Central. If you are heading to somewhere else on the northwest side, you will need to transfer at Western Ave, or Pulaski Rd. The #9 Ashland bus turns south from Irving Park to Ashland - so you need to go to the southwest corner to board it. It quits running at 1:45 am. The Red Line "L" is six blocks east.

2010: Selection has greatly improved here in the past couple years. Wildly rotating taps full of beery goodness.
2007:
The Long Room is a nice little place, and they pay attention to their beer selection.
The bar is indeed long, probably the longest i've seen around town. The tap handles are spaced evenly along the length of the bar, so check the tap list if you don't want to miss anything.
Usually you can find a 2 Brothers seasonal on tap, and always a well-rounded bottle selection. The bottle list slants toward US craft west of the Mississippi, mainly CO and CA, which isn't all bad, but they could use a few more local brews. They have some nice Belgians, including La Trappe Quad on tap on my last visit.
Rotation seems to be a key factor here, so that bumps up the selection also.
In warmer months, check out the patio in the back. The laid back atmosphere is similar to the patio at Resi's maybe with a bit younger crowd.
Service is always friendly and attentive. Bartenders don't mind chatting about beer or giving suggestions.
Once a week they have live music with no cover...
